UAE banks freeze the accounts of deceased customers — including joint accounts — until a succession certificate or registered will instructs the bank otherwise. This can leave a surviving spouse without immediate access to funds for school fees, rent or daily expenses.
Mitigation
Maintain a separate emergency fund in the surviving spouse's sole name, and register a will that names an executor empowered to deal with banking institutions.
